O planeta Terra é o local de residência de muitas espécies animais. Uma em particular evoluiu e diversificou-se junto com as flores, as abelhas.
As abelhas são insetos himenópteros que procuram por recursos nas flores. Alimentam-se de pólen, néctar, óleo e algumas espécies até coletam perfume de flores para atrair seus parceiros.
O resultado dessa interação leva à formação das sementes e dos frutos.
Portanto, as abelhas são importantes para a reprodução de muitas espécies vegetais do nosso ambiente natural, como as plantas das florestas, savanas, pântanos e pradarias, mas também das plantas existentes em ambientes urbanos.
Os humanos são especialmente dependentes das abelhas. Mais de 75% das espécies das culturas agrícolas em todo o mundo dependem, ou pelo menos se beneficiam, da polinização animal, especialmente por abelhas. O valor da polinização é estimado em bilhões de dólares todos os anos, mas a polinização ainda é, na maioria das vezes, subestimada pelas políticas internacionais.
Apesar da importância das abelhas em nossas vidas, os cientistas alertam que a população de algumas espécies podem estar diminuindo.
Os fatores mais conhecidos que causam um impacto negativo nas abelhas são os patógenos, mas principalmente fatores associados as atividades humanas, como a urbanização, o desmatamento, a alteração da paisagem, a monocultura e o uso de pesticidas.
Então, se dependemos das abelhas, por que nós não colaboramos com a sua conservação? Há várias ações que podemos desenvolver para proteger as abelhas. A message to society to safeguard bees

The planet earth is the residence of many animal species. One in particular have evolved and diversified with the flowers, they are the bees.
Bees are hymenopteran insects that seek for food mostly on flowers. They fed on pollen, nectar, oil and some species even collect perfume from flowers to attract their partners.
The result of this interaction lead to the formation of seeds and fruits. Therefore, bees are important for the maintenance of many plant species of our natural environment such as forests, savannas, wetlands and prairies but also for the plants existing on urban environments.
The humans are especially dependent on bees. More than 75% crop species worldwide are dependent on or at least benefit from animal pollination especially bees. The value of pollination has been indicated to reach billions of dollars every year but still pollination is underestimated by international policies.
Despite importance of bees’ on our life, scientists have indicate the population of some species might be decreasing.
The most known factors leading to impact negatively the bees are their own pathogens but especially human related activities such as urbanization, deforestation, landscape alteration, monoculture and usage of pesticides.
So, if we are dependent on bees, why are humans not helping them? There are plenty of action we can take to safeguard bees.
